Medicine and Music: a testimony

Anne Charlotte Poirier is a 2024 graduate of medical studies at Laval University, Quebec city.

For many years, I loved my piano lessons and I am so grateful to have been introduced to this musical universe thanks to the Conservatoire and Marie-José whom I loved and who remains rooted in my fondest memories of youth.

I don't have a piano in my little student apartment (in Quebec city) but as soon as I get home, I see my piano in the living room and I always have great pleasure to play some notes and even the pieces I used to play. I know that these teachings and love of music will be with me for life.

At the height of the pandemic, I worked in the red zone CHSLD to help and relieve the medical teams in need of assistance as much as possible. When I was younger, I studied piano for 7 years at the Conservatoire de musique de la Montérégie with an exceptional teacher, Marie-José Timperley*, who gave me the love of music.

*Marie-José Timperley is the author of the official Music theory and ear training textbooks of the Conservatoire de musique de la Montérégie from levels 1 to 6. These academic textbooks provide access to comprehensive training for Conservatoire de musique’s students.
